Luton Leagrave 2 Square Rangers 3
Saturday 4th November
Square Rangers recorded
their second win of the season thanks to a quite inspired performance
against tough opponents Luton Leagrave. The players showed excellent
character, belief and spirit to respond from twice falling behind
and then to force themselves in front.
It was very evident from the early stages that both teams were very
evenly matched and this remained throughout the duration of the
match. Both teams’ defences offered stiff resistance to the
opposing forwards and the performances of the goalkeepers made it
clear goals would be hard earned. As a result the match resembled
very much a cup-tie, tense, excitement and nerves on edge (all experienced
by coaches and supporters!!)
From Square Rangers perspective the players’ work rate must
be applauded as they maintained a sustained tempo throughout the
game. Also, as mentioned before, their spirit was a joy to see,
as they kept their focus irrespective of the conditions they found
themselves in the game - falling behind, levelling and then leading
in the match. Finally the development of each player’s understanding
of their position in the team was noticeable - very good signs!
Highlight(s) of the match:
The quality of the three
goals, which as mentioned before had to be worked hard for. However
the individual brilliance of Matt’s strike, Josh’s excellent
far post corner met expertly by Harry’s volley, and then Joe’s
close skill to force an opening matched by a neat finish past the
keeper, made for three excellent goals.
Player of the Match: (chosen by Charlie Bates)
