Eaton Bray Lions 4 Square
Rangers 1
Saturday 13th January
South Beds Saturday Cup Quarter Final
Square Rangers, playing their first competitive match for four weeks
and going into the game without two of their more experienced players
and with one player carrying an injury the team clearly faced a
huge challenge to carry them through to the semi final.
It was a frustrating morning as the team was continually re-shuffled
to allow for injuries, as there was no substitute available, and
also were down to ten players for the end of the first half due
to a nose bleed to Faheem.
Taking this all into consideration however it was a very brave effort
by the Rangers team particularly in the first half where they were
undone by two goals from set pieces. The team rallied well and when
Jake scored just before the break it gave the boys a lift to take
them into the second half.
The second half saw Square bravely fight their way back, however
the heavy pitch began to take its toll on some of the boys and Eaton
Bray capitalised well with some neat teamwork that brought them
two further goals to stretch their lead. Despite forcing some good
pressure near the end where Joe missed a penalty, the boys could
clearly offer no more and subsequently saw them bow out of the Cup.
Player of the match:
Stewart Mitchelmore
Summary:
We have some great matches still to play in the League, and with
all our players available I believe on a good day we are capable
of beating anybody in the League. There is still a lot to play for
and look forward to in the second half of the season.
