Square Rangers 2 Watling
Saints 2
Saturday 24th February
Square Rangers fought
back well from conceding two early goals to earn a well deserved
draw in a match that saw very little to separate the two teams.
Rangers, not having played for three weeks, took time to settle
and Watling took full advantage with two very well taken early goals.
All credit to Rangers though for not panicking, and gradually they
began to get back into the game, in fact the balance of play had
swung very much in favour of Rangers by the end of the first half
in which Matt converted two well taken goals to bring the scores
level by half time.
The second half saw both teams produce good football in the attacking
third of the pitch and credit must go to both teams’ defences
for some resolute defending. A late flurry from Rangers saw good
work down the right hand side by Jack and Joe set up chances for
Matthew and Matt, Matt was in fact denied his hat-trick by the offside
ruling. At the other end Ryan again produced smart handling particularly
from corners, whilst Afsar, Nathan, Tom and Stewart deserve much
credit for a battling second half which kept the two lively Watling
strikers at bay.
Players of the match:
Joe and Afsar
Summary:
Rangers showed great
character to come back in the game from 0-2 down and certainly on
the balance of play a draw was a fair result.
