Watling Saints 4 Square
Rangers 2
Wednesday 25th April
Square Rangers started
this re-arranged midweek fixture very slowly and paid the price
by conceding two early goals against a lively Watling Saints. After
re-grouping Square Rangers began to get a hold on the game but it
was Watling who were the livelier creating many goal scoring opportunities.
Jack was leading the way for Rangers and he thoroughly deserved
his goal by finishing off a great solo run. Thoughts of a great
fight back however were rather premature as Watling immediately
from the re-start grabbed their third to restore the two goal lead,
which they took going into the break.
The second half saw a much improved Rangers take the game more into
their opponents half and create good pressure that worried the Watling
defence a few times. Joe down the right hand side was always a threat
and he helped set up good chances in front of goal for Faheem, Matt
and Jake. Rangers good work was rewarded when Jack grabbed his second
with a long shot hit very high which bounced over the goalkeeper
and into the net. Matt made sure of it crossing the line but the
goal was goiven to Jack. AS Rangers went all out for the equaliser
Watling always looked to exploit the gaps in the Rangers defence
and when a free-kick near our own goal line was nodded into the
space vacated by our centre halves it was a race to the ball with
the Watling striker just beating Ryan to strike it home to make
it 4-2.
Player of the match:
Jack Sullivan and Joe
Evans
Summary:
Unfortunately Rangers
slow start gave them too much to do but their determination in never
giving up always kept them in the game and helped them come close
to taking a point.
