City Church 1 Square Rangers

Saturday 28th October
Friendly
After a three week lay-off it was good for some of the Square Rangers
to get back to playing football against current CYFL U12 league
leaders City Church. Whenever the two clubs meet you are guaranteed
an entertaining match and this match, played in heavy conditions,
was by no means an exception in this thrilling encounter.
Early exchanges set the tempo of the game, fast flowing with lots
of commitment from both teams, although different in styles. It
was City Church that took the lead early on with a well taken goal
beating Ryan at his near post, following a swift counter attack.
Square Rangers responded well with some fine build-up play which
exerted a lot of pressure on the City goal and creating much in
the way of goal mouth action. City defended excellently and it became
clear that Square were going to work hard for any goal, but the
Rangers boys’ patience paid off just before the break when
Jack Sullivan met a near post cross with his head which found the
top corner to level the score at 1-1.
The opening period of the second half brought the best out of Square
Rangers as tight defending from Stewart Mitchelmore and Nathan Berry
helped the midfield players to push on to more attacking positions.
The team’s passing helped to force openings down both flanks
and through the centre, and this resulted in further goals by Joe
Evans, Faheem Parkar and Jake Gill. The second half however was
certainly not all one sided, City always posed a threat and Ryan
Larrington on more than one occasion saved bravely to deny the home
side from close range.
Summary:
A smashing game to watch,
where both teams made a very good impression.
Man of the Match: (chosen by Abdul Parkar)
Joe Evans
