Square FC 8 Cornerstone
0
Saturday 3rd February
2007
The visitors matched Square in this game, until an own goal from
a corner put Square ahead, and settled the teams composure.
Minutes later it was 2-0 as Chris Matthews picked up a kick from
keeper Chris Jones, and waltzed past the Cornerstone defenders and
then confidently slotted past the keeper into the net.
The first half finished with a 3 goal lead for Square after Tom
Foster lashed an unstoppable shot into the top corner of the net.
The second half again started evenly enough, but a perfect cross
from Alex to the far post enable Joel to head the ball home to extend
the lead.
By now Cornerstone were looking for a consolation goal as they kept
pushing forward, only to be thwarted by defenders Jonny and Josh.
Instead their misery was compounded as Square midfield continued
to keep up the pressure and found the net 4 more times.
Tom Firth took over in goal for Square for the final 10 minutes,
to give Chris Jones his chance to play striker, in his elusive quest
for a goal, which still continues.
To be on the end on such a battering was slightly harsh on Cornerstone
- who gave Square a real run for their money in the first half -
but in the end they simply had no answer on the day to the enthusiasm
and commitment from the Square players.
