City Church 1 Square FC
1
Saturday 7th October 2006
This was the second meeting for these two sides, who met a few weeks
earlier at St. Albans, in a pre-season friendly, when City claimed
victory with the only goal of the game in the final minutes.
This league meeting resulted in a similar match, with City having
a well organised, resilient defence to contain the pressure from
the Square attacks.
Despite Square creating many scoring opportunities throughout the
game, the City keeper produced some outstanding efforts in goal.
The second half proved more of the same for Square, as their possession
continued to lead to lack of clinical finishing in front of goal.
It was an own goal from Chris Jones, leaving the Square keeper stranded,
that broke the deadlock, and gave City the lead midway through the
half.
This made Square players raise their game, to try and get back into
the match.
It was with just 5 minutes to play, that Alex tucked a corner in
at the near post to restore the balance.
However, Square were not yet finished, and continued to press for
another. City however had other ideas, and their defending proved
enough to make it a point for both sides from an exciting and sporting
contest.
Man of the match:
Alex Marvin
