Saturday 17th March 2007
Square booked a place
in the CYFL U15 Cup Final thanks to a confident hat trick from Tom
Foster.
This was an intriguing tie, with both teams having beaten the other
in league games.
The midfield battles were evident in an exciting first half, with
both sides pushing for a break. It was Square’s rapid response
to a St Marys attack, moving the ball up the pitch too fast for
them to recover, leaving Tom Foster, taking a pass from Alex, to
drill a beauty past the keeper.
St Marys played their part in this tense clash, and had a sniff
of a chance with a break on goal that needed Joe at his best with
a last ditch tackle.
With only 1 goal separating the teams at half time, it was still
anyone’s game, and the second half continued the midfield
contest for possession.
As time counted down, St Marys needed an extra push, and in the
pressure of the moment, their keeper made an unfortunate error,
which allowed Tom Foster to tuck the ball into an empty net.
The credit for the final goal goes to Chris Matthews, who made all
the space in front of goal, and unselfishly made a simple pass to
Tom Foster to finish with his third, and putting the game out of
reach of the battling St Marys.
