HFC Rangers 2 v Square
FC 4
Saturday 9th December
2006
Square FC overcame HFC in a tight, hard fought game at Peoples Park
to stretch their unbeaten record to 7 games.
Due to unfortunate circumstances, Square started the game with only
5 players and were put to the sword in the first half as HFC tried
to take advantage of their extra man but were thwarted by an excellent
display from Andy Kight in goal. Ironically when Square’s
6th player arrived they conceded a relatively soft goal. Square
then equalized through Darren, only to fall behind shortly afterwards
and went into the break 2-1 down.
Having had the riot act read at half time, by yours truly, Square
went out and proceeded to dominate the second half and took control
with goals from Otto (2) and Darren to run out worthy winners. In
truth they had opportunities to extend their lead (particularly
Tom hitting the bar), although HFC always carried a threat.
Goalscorers: Darren Custance (2) Otto Da-lbanga
(2).
Man of the Match:
Otto Da-lbanga –
an outstanding display. He was always a threat and his partnership
with Darren was unstoppable.
Summary:
After a very average first half, when HFC were the side who wanted
to win the game more, Square responded to by stepping up the second
half to dominate and complete a well deserved victory. After the
half time talk, I cannot praise the whole team for their response.
An excellent performance.
