Square Rangers 8 Watling
Youth 1
Saturday 17th November
2007
Square Rangers maintained
their impressive form with a fine team performance that has seen
them continue to climb the League table, now fourth.
The first half saw a bright start by Watling, who probably edged
the first fifteen minutes and at that stage the match looked destined
to be a close affair. Gradually however Square Rangers began to
find their stride and certainly grew stronger as the half progressed.
Johnny and Peter ‘s movement and link-up play proved a constant
threat to the Watling defence as they revelled in the quality service
being supplied from the Rangers’ midfield players. One goal
apiece from Joe and Peter made sure that Rangers went into the break
in front although the margin could have been greater had Rangers
capitalised on the many one-on-one situations in front of goal.
A fine save by Ryan from a well taken Watling free-kick, and a tidy
performance from the back four denied the visitors any chance of
a breakthrough to bring Rangers 2-0 up at the break.
The second half saw Rangers really push on to put the visitors under
pressure with Rangers dominant in midfield through Jack and Spencer
in the middle and Jake and Joe down the flanks. Once again the movement
of Johnny and Peter was a treat to watch as they stretched the visitors
defence to not only provide goal scoring opportunities for each
other but also for the emerging midfield runners. Jack Sullivan
helped himself to a brace either side of the visitors’ pulling
a goal back, and then further goals by Peter(2) to complete a fine
hat-trick, and then Johnny and a delighted Spencer, his first for
Square Rangers, certainly put the game beyond doubt. It wasn’t
all one way however as both Nathan and William made crucial challenges
to deny the visitors a clear opening in front of goal while Ryan
again produced another classy save from one of Watling’s dangerous
second half attacks. It was pleasing to see that Square Rangers
kept the same shape and continued to play their passing game right
to the final whistle.
Summary:
A complete team performance
with each player playing their part to earn a very good win against
a team that were better than the 8-1 deficit might suggest. There’s
a great spirit emerging in the camp and this can only serve the
team well in the months to come.
Player of the Match:
Jake Gill, a tiresome
performance and clearly one of his best matches for Square Rangers.
