Square Rangers 2 Luton
Leagrave 0
Saturday 6th October 2007
Another good solid team
performance by Square Rangers which this time brought them reward
with two goals scored by Joe Evans and a first for Peter Remon.
However Rangers were made to work hard for this win as the work
rate of the Rangers side was well matched by a spirited Luton Leagrave
team.
A first half that brought no goals was not without goalmouth action
as both sides tested the opposite goalkeeper, but with both team’s
defences looking strong and resolute it was noticeable that clear
opportunities in front of goal were going to be limited and chances
needed to be taken.
The second half was again similar to the first but in centre midfield
Spencer and Jack were beginning to impose themselves and this gave
the team the impetus to get further forward. Joe and Johnny provided
the width which stretched the opponents defence and this provided
the openings for both of Rangers’ goals, which were both scored
from close range. Luton Leagrave came back well and proved what
a dangerous team they can be especially on the counter attack, safe
handling by Ryan and a double goal-line clearance from Nathan however
kept them at bay and ensured Rangers held on to the two-goal advantage
to take into the second leg.
Summary:
It was a game where the
team had to be patient and just keep working hard hoping that eventually
their perseverance just might pay off. The work rate of the four
midfield players influenced the game at crucial times as they just
kept going throughout the 70 minutes at winning possession and driving
the team forward. The movement of the front two always carried a
threat and therefore was pleasing that they were rewarded with two
goals. Finally the back four and Ryan in goal’s contribution
and impact on the game should not be underestimated.
