Watling Youth 0 Square
Rangers 4
Saturday 8th March 2008
Square Rangers maintained
their excellent run of results after this efficient display against
close neighbours Watling Youth which has kept them in the mix at
the top of the South Beds Under 13 division.
A bright start by Square Rangers saw them quickly take the lead
through Johnny latching on to a through ball to calmly guide the
ball into the net, and from there on Square Rangers used their experience
to control the game. It took a while for Rangers to overcome a disciplined
Watling back four intent on playing the offside trap but once they
mastered the timing of forward runs the boys were able to add two
further goals through Spencer and Jake, and create a number of one-on
-one and clear goal scoring opportunities before half-time.
The second half saw Square Rangers continue to take a hold of the
game with the midfield trio Joe, Jack and Spencer instrumental in
much of Rangers’ good work in the attacking third. Ryan gave
the team good width down the left and his dangerous cross was helped
into the net by a Watling defender to give Rangers their fourth
goal, and although Rangers created many more chances they were not
able to add to that tally. At the other end Nathan and William proved
an effective partnership at the heart of the Rangers defence ably
supported by full backs Stewart and Louis to deny Watling any threat
of getting back into the game. Goal keeper Jamie had a sound game,
rarely troubled, but when needed he looked comfortable.
Summary:
The statistics would probably
show that Rangers should have won the game by more, however the
most important thing was the level of performance and the victory,
that when playing a team struggling could be taken for granted.
Watling, for their part showed plenty heart and spirit and for that
alone they deserve better reward than they have got this season.
For our part Square Rangers’ league campaign continues in
April with our final three matches where after a great recovery
from his broken leg we hope to welcome Peter back to the squad,
it could well prove to be a very tense and exciting finish!!
