Luton Leagrave 1 Square
Rangers 1
Saturday 23rd February
Square Rangers’ season is back
on track after a lengthy absence of competitive football since the
Christmas break. Their return saw them pitied for the fourth time
this season against Luton Leagrave and this game was no different
to the previous three hard fought close encounters.
A strong wind that blew across the pitch gave both teams a few problems
in a match that surprisingly gave fewer than the normal number of
goal scoring opportunities. The over-congested midfield made for
a real battle that to be fair both sides cancelled each other out.
The bright start by Square Rangers however gave very promising signals
of what might lie ahead as Johnny hit the crossbar inside the first
couple of minutes, and then saw Jake finish off a great move with
an excellent strike to put Rangers 0-1 up. Square Rangers then continued
to put good pressure on the home team’s goal with Johnny again
and Faheem and Joe all going close. It was a pity that our finishing
prevented us from perhaps killing the game off as it appeared that
the longer the match progressed with just a slender lead the more
Leagrave found heart in the belief that they could nick a goal.
Their effort was rewarded inside the final fifteen minutes with
an opportune strike that cruelly bounced up just in front of goalkeeper
Jamie, making his debut, to level the score 1-1.
Summary:
Probably this was a fair
result as both sides could claim the effort they put in deserved
a point, however to win the game we needed to be more clinical in
front of goal and work their keeper more. Still, Luton Leagrave
are a dangerous team and are capable of beating the top teams in
the league so a point should not by no means be seen as loose change.
