Square Rangers 5 Watling
Youth 2
Saturday 8th December
2007
Square Rangers deservedly
reached the Cup final thanks to this 5-2 victory over neighbours
Watling Youth, however the Rangers players joy was clouded by the
injury to striker Peter Remon sustaining a broken leg following
a second half challenge.
Very cold conditions with heavy rain for good measure made this
anything like suitable for a Cup Semi final, however both teams
can be proud of their efforts to make a good game out of it. The
first half saw Rangers play against the wind and their short range
passing out of defence to midfield, with Nathan, Josh and Spencer
in particular linking up well, proving most effective. Johnny and
Peter both thrived on the quality of service coming from midfield
where each were put through on one on ones on a number of occasions.
Joe Evans rattled the crossbar while Johnny struck a post, however
two strikes by Johnny and one from Peter gave Square Rangers a 3-0
lead going into the break.
The second half, with the wind at their backs saw Johnny complete
a fine Square Rangers move to give him his hat-trick and extend
the lead to 4-0. However as both Johnny and Peter had demonstrated
their pace to get behind the Watling back four all morning and cause
them problems unfortunately ended on a sad note as Peter chased
a through pass that was definitely 50/50 with the Watling goalkeeper.
With both players bravely committed to the challenge it was Peter
who unfortunately felt the full impact and consequently suffered
a fracture to his tibia. As the match entered its final stages and
the weather worsened some of the Square Rangers players were clearly
suffering from the conditions and this gave Watling the impetus
to finish the match on a high after scoring two goals inside the
final fifteen minutes.
Summary:
Square Rangers can look
forward to a Cup final later in the season, which they have deserved
after a sustained run of matches since the Memorial Park defeat
on the first day of the season that has seen them produce attractive
and productive football week in week out. We all wish Peter a speedy
recovery where we hope he can spearhead our attack in that final.
Man of the match:
Great vision to supply
the front players with quality service leading to many assists and
clearly one of his best games this season - Joe Evans.
