St.Mary's 0 Square FC

Saturday 6th October 2007
A fine start to the under
12’s season continued with a 1-0 victory over a spirited St.
Mary’s side. With Square’s Regular goalkeeper Callum
Strachan not available Jay Samsa stepped in to fill the keeper’s
position. St Mary’s started the game very well and kept John
Hearn and Sam Lee very busy in the Square defence. As the half continued
Square began to assert themselves with Chris Gransby marshalling
the midfield and Jonas Allen having a couple of great chances to
open the scoring, but both sides were happy to go into the break
level at 0-0.
The second half started with Square on the attack from the beginning
and opened the scoring with Jack Hatton laying on the ball for Jonas
to score. Stuart Perkins Replaced John in the Square defence and
made a series of great tackles to maintain Squares Advantage.
St. Mary’s continued
to press throughout the second half and with some fine defending
from Joe Gee, Square were put under great pressure. With only minutes
remaining St. Mary’s were throwing everyone forward to try
and find the equaliser but With Chris covering every blade of grass
Square managed to hold out, giving a third straight victory at the
beginning of the new season.
Man of the match:
Chris Gransby.
