Mid Beds 0 Square FC 5
Saturday 26th January
2008 CYFL Cup
Alex’s brace helped
secure Square’s passage to the next round of the CYFL at the
expense of Mid Beds (MBC).
Square made changes to their starting side with Chris Matthews partnering
Chris Jones in defence, together making a number of crucial blocks
and challenges. The MBC side regularly worried Square early on,
as they put the previous weeks result behind them. but Square dominated
the game after the break.
Square were positive in attack and after a shaky start, had their
chances to break the deadlock. From Josh’s pass, Alex found
space on the edge of the area and clipped his effort past the keeper
to open the scoring. Matt should have made more if his chances when
passes from deep put him clean through, but gave Square a 2 goal
cushion at half time with a good headed goal from a corner.
Early into the second half, Square moved ahead with a clinical finish
from unmarked Josh, who made good contact with Tom’s cross
to increase the score. The goal lifted the Square with Freddy and
Alex pulling the strings from midfield and Matt, and later Tom,
linking up neatly up front. Freddy took his chance soon after, and
then Alex sealed the win with a superb run and composed finish,
to give him his 2nd and Square's 5th goal.
