Square FC 3 Cornerstone

Saturday 29th September
2007
The first half started
with Square pressing for goals, using possession well across all
areas of the pitch. However, getting shots on target proved to be
a problem, as Cornerstone worked hard in defence. Alex, Freddie
and Matt all had chances cleared away. After 15 minutes of pressure,
Alex finally created the opportunity to take the lead for Square.
However, instead of settling the Square confidence, this increased
the efforts by Cornerstone to strike back, as they broke through
several times to create their own scoring opportunities.
The second half continued the Square push on to the Cornerstone
goal, but with Ben and Harry kept busy in defence, it was not going
to be easy. Keeper Chris Jones was called on a couple of times to
pull off saves to keep the slim lead.
With 10 minutes remaining, Square finally consolidated the lead
with a well taken corner headed home by Chris Matthews, and followed
minutes later by a well hit left foot shot from Matt, which sealed
the result.
Cornerstone continued to press for a deserved consolation goal in
the final minutes, but the great all round team effort for Square
proved enough to maintain the clean sheet.
