St Marys 0 Square FC 4
Saturday 12th April 2008
In their fourth meeting of the season, St Marys confidence must
have been high, having won the three previous encounters.
However, the Square players were highly motivated and positive in
their approach to this game, and it showed from the kickoff, as
they battled and supported each other in all areas of the pitch.
Off the pitch, the positive support from injured Matt, and substitute
Tom, ensured a great team atmosphere to inspire the players on the
pitch.
St Marys occasionally probed impressively but lacked real class
around the penalty area and failed to carve out any clear-cut chances.
The deadlock was broken when Chris Matthews swung an innocuous free-kick
towards goal from 30 yards and, as Square challenged for the ball,
the keeper failed to make any real contact to clear and the ball
was put straight into the net by Ben.
Square continued to stream forward in waves and Alex later added
to the score when he clipped the ball into the goal.
St Marys suffering continued into the second-half, as Square continued
to pressurise the game, and eventually added to the score with a
neatly played ball into the box, which was tapped home by Ben with
the defence at a complete standstill.
St Marys plugged away but solid defending in all areas of the pitch
limited them to long range shots, which lacked the required accuracy
to trouble Harry in goal.
In the final minutes, a half chance was pounced upon by Alex who
tucked into the net to complete the scoring.
Man of the Match:
Alex for a committed captains
performance, inspiring the whole team to produce a superb display
of concentrated effort throughout this match.
