City Church 1 Square United
3
Saturday 12th January
2008
Square produced a superb,
committed performance to defeat a vastly improved City Church side
despite only having 5 players.
The first half was played in a very attacking manner by both sides
and, although both sides were creating chances, the lack of goals
was down to the goalkeepers. However it was Square who scored the
first half goals through Darren and Jamie to lead 2-0 at half time.
The second half was much the same with chances for both sides coming
and going. Again it was Square who scored again with an excellent
finish from Jamie and that effectively sealed the win. Both sides
had opportunities to score but the keepers kept them out but City
Church eventually scored the goal they deserved with the last kick
of the game.
Goalscorers:
Jamie Copperwheat 2,
Darren Custance 1.
Man of the Match:
Andy Kight – had
a magnificent game and it looked as if City Church would never beat
him. In fact I thought the best two players on the pitch were the
two goalkeepers.
Summary:
This was one of the best performances from any Under 18 side who,
despite only having 5 players, took the game to City Church and
deservedly won the game. Every player performed heroically in the
circumstances and I was proud of all of them.
I overhead a comment from an opposition player “they have
one less player but they are playing as if they have the extra player”.
