Square United 3 HFC Rangers
4
CYFL Cup Final
Saturday 3rd May 2008
Square United were denied winning the double for the second year
running when they were just edge out by HFC Rangers in an exciting
seesaw of a match.
Without the availability of Andy Kight, Darren was deployed in goal
but , despite this, he still managed to open the scoring from a
long clearance. However a determined HFC Rangers replied before
Otto put United ahead again. To their credit HFC responded and equalised
before the break.
The second half continued in the same manner as the first but it
was HFC Rangers who took the upper hand moving into a 4-2 lead.
Square United responded by pulling a goal back from Darren, now
out of goal, but despite creating chances were unable to grab the
equaliser that would have taken the game into extra time.
Goalscorers:
Darren Custance 2, Otto
Da-lbanga 1
Man of the Match:
Ben Keble - I thought
that Ben’s display was a return to the excellent form that
he has shown over the last couple of seasons. However he was run
close by Otto and Jamie.
Summary:
United were without both Andy and Tom for this game and it was the
lack of alternatives that was Square’s undoing, although I
cannot fault any of the player’s performances or their attitude.
However HFC Rangers were perhaps the more determined side on the
day and it was no disgrace to lose to them. Whilst I, and the players,
do not like losing, I am pleased for Eddie and HFC Rangers who has
been so close to winning something for the last 5 years and have
at last got passed the winning line.
